The goal of this course is to introduce string theory.

String Theory is the best developed contender for a complete theory of quantum gravity. This course serves a first introduction to this vast subject, studying in detail the theory in the first quantized formalism, culminating with a discussion of scattering amplitudes.

Syllabus
  • Worldline formalism
  • The classic bosonic string
  • Quantization
  • 2d CFTs
  • Path integral formalism
  • Scattering amplitudes
  • Superstrings
  • Non-perturbative aspects
Prerequisites

Both Quantum Field Theory, General Relativity will help in the understanding of the course, although for the most part it is self contained.

Evaluation

Evaluation of the course will take the form of an end-of-term exam
