The goal of this course is to better understand how interfaces instabilities can affect morphogenesis.

In the first parts, we will review the situations in which interfacial dynamics affect liquid shape and flow. In particular, we will describe thin films, drops and bubbles behavior, capillary and Marangoni driven flows as well as interfacial instabilities. We will also consider how and when soft matter at interfaces can affect their characteristics.

In the last part of the course, we will consider morphogenesis and pattern formation, bridging physical systems and biological systems.

We will address the following topics : from interfacial instabilities to form ; reaction-diffusion and population dynamics ; mechanical instabilities and buckling ; cellular organization, from liquid foams to tissues.

Syllabus
Prerequisites

Basic hydrodynamics.

Evaluation

Two questions sessions will take place in continuous assessment during the lessons (20% of the mark)

Participation in the mini-colloquium which takes place during the last class will be graded (80%). It will be a question of both presenting an article in pairs during this conference and participating in the scientific discussion that will follow the various presentations.
